Users did not like this approach, so you can find a lot of complaints about it on the network. Some say offering users 8 gigabytes or even more on the MacBook Pro in 2023 is outrageous, to say the least. Upgrading the combined RAM from 8 gigabytes to 16 gigabytes on any of the latest models costs $200. Many do not want to spend extra money on this.
Chinese machine learning engineer and blogger Lin YilYi managed to talk to Bob Borchers, Apple’s vice president of worldwide product marketing, and ask him this question. After the developer described the M3 and the entry-level MacBook Pro with 8 gigabytes of RAM as a “big problem” for potential buyers, Borchers responded in detail:
“Comparing our own memory to another system’s memory is not actually equivalent because we use memory very efficiently, use memory compression, and offer a unified memory architecture.
In fact, the 8 gigabytes of RAM in the MacBook Pro with M3 are similar to the 16 gigabytes of RAM in other systems. We can just use it much more efficiently. I invite people to come in and do whatever they want with their systems and I think they will see incredible performance. When you look at the output and capabilities of these systems, they are truly extraordinary. “I think people need to look beyond the specs and capabilities and listen to professionals like you who use our systems.”Borchers said.
Many people disagree with this and say that in practice 8 gigabytes is only enough to view pages and movies on the Internet. But in fact, there are many scenarios where 8 and 16 gigabytes of RAM do not make a significant difference in performance. But it should be noted that this is not an ordinary laptop for studying or “killing time”, but a model of the Pro class, purchased for tasks requiring high performance.
Even so, the MacBook Pro laptops were released only two days ago, and there are not yet enough reviews and tests across a variety of tasks to draw any conclusions about the performance of the base model.
