Apple has released the iOS 17.1 update for all eligible iPhones. Although it does not offer any significant new features, it focuses on solving existing problems. One such fix addresses an issue affecting BMW users. As you may remember, BMW users encountered a strange error when charging their iPhones wirelessly in BMW models. Despite claims that the iOS 17.1 update will solve the problem, a similar problem has now emerged in GM-branded General Motors models.
iOS 17.1 update causes charging issues for iPhone users in GM vehicles
iPhone users who updated to iOS 17.1 are experiencing problems with wireless charging in General Motors vehicles. Phones stop charging after a few seconds and freeze. Users have tried various troubleshooting methods, including restarting their phones, but the problem persists.
Although this problem seems to affect BMW users, there is a slight difference. In BMW models, the NFC feature is also disconnected from the phone, unlike General Motors, where the technology remains unchanged. Users making these claims say they have tried everything but nothing works.
As a post from “Caduceus26” stated, “I’m glad to know this isn’t just me. My iPhone 12 Pro Max worked perfectly (every time) in my ’23 Chevy Traverse. I upgraded to the iPhone 15 Pro Max about 6 weeks ago and the feature broke, as described in other comments: It charges for a few seconds, then stops; Opening or closing the safe produces the same results. I am currently running iOS 17.1.1 and have been using all updates since purchasing the phone on 8.10.23.”
Some users even took their vehicles to the service, suspecting that there was a problem with the vehicle. However, no problems were found. The complaints were also forwarded to Apple, but the company has not yet made any statement on the issue. Along with all this, a solution to the iOS 17.2 update is expected soon.
