Less work, more rest

The entrepreneur says technology will never completely replace humans, but it can make the three-day workweek a reality. I made this statement in Trevor Noah’s “What Now?” He did it on his podcast. The presenter asked about the threat to jobs from artificial intelligence. Gates said there may one day come a time when people “don’t have to work so hard.”

“If you end up with a society where you only have to work three days a week, that’s probably fine.”
This is what Gates said:

He predicted that the world might eventually reach a point where “machines will produce all the food and everything else” and people won’t have to work five days a week to earn a living wage.

Although artificial intelligence has brought some positive changes, Gates has previously acknowledged the risks associated with misuse of artificial intelligence. In July, he published a 3,000-word blog post about the potential impact of artificial intelligence. “I don’t think the impact of AI will be as dramatic as the Industrial Revolution, but it will certainly be as significant as the advent of the personal computer. Word processors didn’t end office work, but they changed it forever. Employers and workers had to adapt, and they did.”.

Gates isn’t the only entrepreneur predicting a shorter work week. In an interview with Bloomberg in October, JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon said that thanks to artificial intelligence, the new generation of employees will only have a 3.5-day working week: “Your kids will live to be 100, won’t get cancer thanks to technology, and will probably work three and a half days a week.”.

Today, some countries are testing the effectiveness of the four-day work week. Researchers provided positive reports of improved work-life balance and noted improved performance.
