Mark Gurman’s report suggests that the company is currently working on at least four variants of the upcoming headset. It aims to halve the production cost of at least one of these.

Detail

After years of rumors, Apple officially confirmed the existence of the Vision Pro in June. The company called its mixed reality experience “spatial computing” and showed off what appears to be a completely finished product. However, in the presentation, they said that the work was not completed yet, so the company needed some more time.

Vision Pro hardware is the absolute leader in the industry. What is the value of the built-in 4K display, the quality of which fascinates the public? The price of the device caused a radically different effect – $3499. Apple compares this to the first Macintosh, which sells for the equivalent of $7,000 today. But this is a starting point; The company does not expect to develop this technology into a serial product from the very beginning.

According to Bloomberg, Apple plans to price the 2nd generation Vision Pro in its lineup $1,500 to $2,500. For this, he will probably have to give up the EyeSight feature. A new supply chain report from Digitimes confirms this, claiming that Apple is aiming to cut at least 50 percent of its “BOM,” a term that describes the total cost of components.

Of course, the cost of components is only one element of total costs. It’s worth considering the assembly cost, which may be lower due to fewer components, as well as other costs such as research and development, marketing, distribution, and more.

The report states: Apple is currently working on four separate versions of the technology, but only a direct successor has been confirmed. We also know that the company is developing a cheaper version of the current generation. Interestingly, it was called a similar price and rejection of EyeSight. Therefore, it may turn out that we are talking about the same device.

At some point, Apple will likely release a model like the Meta Quest Pro priced closer to $1,000. Then it will become a real candidate for the mass market, because at a price of $ 3,499 or even $ 2,500 it is a niche product for a limited audience.
