iPhone 13 and 14 will get Qi2 wireless charging support with iOS 17.2 update

Apple, usually cautious about the introduction of new standards, has not dragged Qi2 away and has already introduced Qi2 chargers for all iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 models in its iPhone 15 smartphone series.

This means the previous two generations of iPhones will support up to 15W wireless charging from Qi2-marked devices. Although the iOS documentation does not specify the power value. It will be possible to say exactly this about this parameter with the release of iOS 17.2 to a wide audience – it will probably happen in the coming days.

Until now, the 15W wireless charging input power on the iPhone 13 and 14 was only available with MagSafe-certified chargers; all others offered no more than 7.5W. Qi2 delivers the same 15W to compatible devices from all manufacturers, and those devices no longer need to pay Apple for MagSafe labeling.

The Qi2 standard was announced almost a year ago at the CES 2023 fair, and its main advantage was support for fast MagSafe wireless charging even on Android devices, thanks to the Magnetic Power Profile technology that ensures compatibility of phones and chargers.

WPC (Wireless Power Consortium), the organization responsible for the standard, added that future versions will support higher power. Qi2 branded chargers will be available soon.
