The latest Vivo X100 Pro+ is reportedly being tested for satellite communication capabilities. While the Vivo X100 series was unveiled in November with the Vivo X100 and Vivo X100 Pro, the satellite-equipped Pro+ model has not been officially announced yet.
Vivo is actively testing satellite communication functions. This move follows a trend from Huawei, whose flagship phones like the Huawei Mate 60 Pro already have built-in satellite features.
It is noteworthy that the OPPO Find X7 series officially announced that it supports satellite communication technology. The head of the Honor product group gave a hint of satellite support for the new flagship, which is expected to be released with Magic 6. Xiaomi is also said to be testing satellite capabilities. Although it is not known whether Xiaomi 14 Ultra will get this feature.
It’s not just the big phone brands that are entering this area of innovation. In November, China Telecom introduced the Tianyi Bolton S9, a dual-mode 5G satellite phone priced at 4,599 yuan (~$650). This device is equipped with a built-in satellite dish that takes the form factor of a regular phone without the need to change SIM cards or numbers. Tianyi Bolton S9 integrates China’s Tiantong satellite mobile communication system, which supports two-way Tiantong satellite voice communication and ensures uninterrupted communication throughout the country.
Vivo’s move to test satellite connectivity on the X100 Pro+ shows growing interest in this feature among both manufacturers and consumers. With various industry players actively exploring this technology, it is expected to become a standard feature of mobile devices in the near future.
