What’s new in the January 2024 update?

A key feature of the January 2024 firmware update is the addition of the January 2024 security patch. This patch addresses a total of 75 vulnerabilities in the Android operating system, including one critical, 68 high-risk vulnerabilities, and several medium-risk vulnerabilities.

Additionally, Samsung has resolved more than 80 security issues specific to Galaxy devices. These fixes include a vulnerability that allows users to view notifications from other users in multiplayer settings (tablets only). The update also fixes vulnerabilities in the My Files app that could allow attackers to create files or connect to Bluetooth devices without the user’s permission.

Samsung decided to hide some details of the vulnerability in the January 2024 firmware update to prevent possible exploitation by attackers.

How to check if an update is available for you:

Updates can be obtained and installed from the Software Updates section of your device’s settings. Since this is an initial rollout, availability may vary and will take hours or days for all Galaxy S22 smartphones.
