In October 2023, Google announced that Pixel 8 series smartphones will receive Android updates for 7 years. This was completely unheard of in the smartphone market and surpassed even Apple’s 5-year commitment to the iPhone and iPad.
Samsung seems to have taken note of this incident. A new report Android Headlines It suggests that the upcoming Galaxy S24 series may also receive updates within 7 years. This move, if true, will significantly extend the life of these devices, potentially extending from Android 14 (expected after launch) to Android 21.
However, the post didn’t confirm whether this includes just the security update or the full Android/One UI/features pack, but we’re hoping it’s the latter. Samsung will officially introduce the Galaxy S24 series on January 17. As the launch date approaches, we’ll soon find out whether these long-term update plans have actually come to fruition.
