2024 has just begun, but we already know most of the suitors who will be looking. Win the title of best mobile phone of the year. And of course, the new Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, the successor to last year’s winner, is also among the clearest candidates.
Here we leave the technical comparison of the Galaxy S24 Ultra with its direct competitors. Comparison of the specifications and the most relevant parts of Samsung’s flagship with the rest of the superhigh-end series. We hope a comparison based on numbers and official specs will help you get an idea of what this year’s big fight will be like.
These are the main rivals currently presented that the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra will have to face:
- Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max
- Xiaomi 14 Pro
- OnePlus 12
- Google Pixel 8 Pro
- OPPO Find X7 Ultra
- ASUS ROG Phone 8
- Realme GT5 Pro
- Honor Magic6 Pro
Design: The most durable mobile phone with Gorilla Glass Armor and titanium
The trend that the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra embraces is that of durable mobile phones. As we have seen before with the iPhone 15 Pro, Samsung titanium frame. Unlike its competitors, in this case complements this with new Gorilla Glass ArmorA crystal that promises to increase stamina by 50%. Other devices retain the previous generation Corning with the Victus 2 version.
Samsung prefers a flat design with a flat screen. It’s a choice that other manufacturers, like Xiaomi, have also included, although some, like OnePlus, continue to opt for curved panels.
Display: Samsung’s AMOLEDs are everywhere
In terms of panel, the specifications of most of the super high-end models are similar. The regular size is almost always around 6.8 inches, with QuadHD+ resolution already trending. The brightness level is one of the points that seems to attract attention. Samsung manages to reach up to 2,600 nitsCompared to the iPhone’s 2,000 nits. But the nits war is hard to compare because maximum peak nits are not the same as maximum HBM brightness.
Although Samsung is the manufacturer of AMOLED panels introduced by many other brands, it is in this war. Some brands like OnePlus prefer BOE while others prefer Xiaomi for TCL.
Performance: Qualcomm all around
Except for the Apple A17 Bionic, which remains the exception and reference, This is the trend of 2024 betting on Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. It is undoubtedly the most powerful processor in the Android ecosystem and is a safe bet. No brands deviated except Google on the S24 and S24+ with Exynos and Samsung with Tensor.
The amount of RAM also does not make a difference. What’s new is that the S24 Ultra features a new vapor chamber that is up to 1.9 times larger. When the selected SoC is the same, Cooling capacity can make a difference.
On the battery, Samsung keeps it at around 5,000 mAh. It’s something below some of its rivals like the Realme GT5 Pro, which also differentiates itself by offering much faster fast charging. Here Samsung chooses to be more conservative, considering that this is a part where the experience offered is already satisfactory.
Artificial intelligence as the main innovation
This year, Samsung chose to make artificial intelligence one of the main claims of this year. Translate searches, photo suggestions or transcripts. We were able to try this in Xataka and the truth is that we found it very useful.
Samsung collaborated with Google in the implementation of Gemini for the Galaxy S24. As one of the leading Android manufacturers, Samsung was one of the pioneers in introducing these capabilities of Google’s artificial intelligence model. Although predictably, more Android manufacturers will incorporate similar tools as the months go by.
Photography: megapixels still matter
The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra has a 200-megapixel main sensor, which is the maximum we’ve seen on a flagship. However Quad Tele system takes center stageWith 5x optical zoom. Here, each manufacturer prefers a different system, from Sony’s Lytia sensors to variable aperture sensors like the Xiaomi 14 Pro.
Processing is what makes the difference, and Samsung boasts that its ProVisual Engine is the most complete system for not only taking photos but also editing them.
