Eric Schmidt will help Ukraine with unmanned aerial vehicles
After leaving Google, Schmidt became the link between Silicon Valley and the Pentagon. He chaired the National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence, which released a report in 2021 stating that “AI is changing the way war is generally conducted.” He is now cashing in on that vision by starting a company that will build kamikaze drones with artificial intelligence, and this is directly related to Ukraine, where the war is currently ongoing.
According to journalists, Schmidt is building “White Stork” through a number of other companies, which they call “fake”. One of them is Volya Robotics OÜ. Registered in Tallinn, Schmidt’s beneficiary and an employee of his family office are also sole board members.
White Stork appears to employ several former technology executives, including Sebastian Thrun, co-founder of Google’s lunar flight laboratory.
- Schmidt wrote a lot about what AI drones are the future of warfareIncluding the book he wrote with Henry Kissinger.
- Kamikaze drones cost about $400 and carry small amounts of explosives, the entrepreneur writes in his Wall Street Journal column in July. These are pennies compared to the huge budget of the US Department of Defense. Later in the same article Schmidt called kamikaze drones the “most important” new technology that will be key to defeating Russia and future enemies. At the same time, the U.S. government is making fewer deals with traditional arms dealers like Palantir.
- The former Google CEO also published an article on Monday titled: “Ukraine will lose the drone war”. Schmidt describes in detail his experiences with Ukrainian officials and how poorly Western weapons cope with Russian defense systems. It also states that Ukraine will purchase over a million drones from its allies in 2024.
It is not yet known when the first White Stork unmanned aerial vehicles will fly to liberate Ukrainian lands from the Russians.
