Google Pixel phones have started receiving the Android 14 QPR 2 Beta 3.1 update with a number of bug fixes. This follows a major update released two weeks ago, which introduced a host of new features and a revamped interface.

The latest update, codenamed AP11.231215.009, comes with the January 2024 security patch and is available for all Pixel phones from 5a to the latest Pixel 8 Pro model, including the Pixel Tablet and Fold. The size of the update is relatively small at around 122 MB.

While this update won’t bring any flashy new features, it focuses on ironing out wrinkles in the Android 14 beta. Google has fixed a number of issues, including issues with fingerprint unlocking, app icon placement, and overlay crashes. Below is the full list of fixes:

change log

  • Fixed an issue that prevented widgets such as the Game Control Panel from opening when the device was in landscape mode. (Issue #312516206)
  • Fixed the issue where the device sometimes fails to unlock when Always On Display mode is enabled and the user tries to unlock the device with fingerprint.
  • Fixed an issue where the Quick Settings dialog’s list of Bluetooth devices would sometimes increase in height unexpectedly.
  • Fixed an issue where the default search engine would sometimes set the wrong provider after restoring device data from a cloud backup.
  • Fixed an issue where the Quick Settings display area was not updating properly after changing the system screen size in accessibility settings.
  • Fixed an issue that sometimes caused audio quality to drop when making calls or recording using the microphone.
  • Fixed the issue where the user sometimes could not change the device’s keyboard settings.
  • Fixed the issue where some translations were missing for different languages.
  • Fixed an issue where work profile icons for work apps were not displayed when the work profile was paused.
  • Fixed an issue that caused some shaders to render incorrectly.
  • Fixed the issue where icons would sometimes scale incorrectly when entering picture-in-picture mode while rotating the device.
  • Fixed an issue on foldable devices where the launcher would sometimes remain blank if the device was locked in an expanded state and unlocked after the device was collapsed.
  • Fixed an issue on foldable devices where the app splitter would become unresponsive to touch controls after launching a pair of apps that were already open in split-screen mode after folding or unfolding the device.
  • Fixed an issue on foldable devices that sometimes caused the screen to flicker when deploying the device.
  • Resolved an issue on tablet devices that sometimes caused the gray screen to flicker briefly when certain screen actions were terminated.
  • Fixed an issue on tablet devices that caused touch points on taskbar icons and navigation buttons to be smaller than usual.
  • Fixed various issues affecting system stability, performance, connectivity, camera, and accessibility.

If you’re a Pixel owner participating in the beta testing program, you’ll automatically receive the update over-the-air in the next few days. You can also manually check for updates by going to Settings > System > System Update.

But keep in mind that this is still a beta version of the app; This means you may encounter some errors every now and then. If stability is your main priority, it is better to wait for the official release of Android 14.
