Who is to blame?

Initially, court documents indicated that the fault might lie with Spirit AeroSystems, the Boeing subsidiary that manufactures the doorstops. It was noted that their products generally had an “excessive number of defects”.

But now it appears that Boeing’s lack of quality control led to the situation, according to a report from an anonymous tipster whose testimony was later confirmed by the Seattle Times with its own sources. Door stops were installed incorrectly after being removed for repairs before the January 5 incident.

The first whistleblower to blame the incident on negligence claimed to have access to the aircraft manufacturer’s production documents.

Boeing’s own records state the reason for the door tearing in black and white. It’s also very, very stupid and speaks volumes about the culture of quality in certain parts of the business.

His claims match the findings of National Transportation Safety Board investigators: some bolts were not installedprobably caused the door stopper to tear.

Seattle Times journalists write that they are checking the details provided by the tipster. They specifically met with a person who repaired airplanes, including doors, for Boeing. The Boeing company refused to comment to the newspaper on the issue, citing an investigation that has not yet been concluded.

So what caused the door stops to come off? According to the informants, the incorrect actions taken during the reinstallation of the plug were not entered into the computer system, resulting in no one checking the quality of the door’s installation. So control was unaware of the missing bolts.
