A revolutionary implant aims to provide a connection between the human brain and a computer, offering potential solutions for people with severe motor disorders and other diseases. 24 Channels. The chip also offers an extension of functionality that will allow a person to remotely control a computer, but more on that later.

The main goal is to develop a customized interface that will allow patients to effectively control bionic prostheses or exoskeletons, potentially restoring mobility to people who cannot move their limbs independently.

Neuralink CEO Elon Musk confirmed the progress in a recent post on X and said the first patient to receive the Neuralink implant is on the road to recovery.

The implant, a small cylindrical device inserted into a hole in the skull and connected to the brain via thin electrodes, showed promising results by recording the activity of the patient’s neurons.

Expand human capabilities

It is assumed that the implant, called Telepathy, will allow people to control various devices, especially smartphones and computers, by using the power of thought. Musk highlighted the potential benefits of brain-nervous system interaction for people with severe disabilities, citing the example of famed physicist Stephen Hawking, who communicated faster than a skilled typist or auctioneer.

  • Despite the delay in gaining approval for human trials, the company has perfected its technology. Electrodes inserted into the cerebral cortex to a depth of less than 2 millimeters outperform competing solutions in terms of depth of penetration.

While initial results are encouraging, clinical trials are expected to last approx. six monthIncluding observation of the first group of five or ten patients. If Neuralink is successful, it plans to expand its research. But scientific advisors suggest it could be years before brain implants are approved for mass use.
