A very expensive accessory

As experts have learned, Apple sells special cable for $300 to diagnose and fix non-hardware problems. As a reminder, the headset costs $3,500 in the basic configuration for 256 gigabytes and $3,900 for 1 terabyte. The same cable can be used by developers to install apps to further test them on the device before they are officially released on the app store.

The code found by MacRumors revealed that such an accessory actually exists. Since the headset doesn’t have a port to connect to a computer (you can’t connect it to a laptop to stream movies or music, for example), you’ll need to purchase this cable to enter developer mode. The code was found in diagnostic tools and detailed how it would work with Vision Pro.

Originally, researchers of the code assumed that the cable was only needed by Apple employees at retail stores to repair faulty Vision Pro devices. However, the company seems to have made it available to all developers.

Part of the mysterious cable looks exactly like the audio cable on the Vision Pro. However, it comes with an extended USB-C dongle that you can plug into your computer.

Obviously ordinary buyers are unlikely to need this cable, because not everyone uses software or even code to fix some bugs. Additionally, Apple’s operating systems are very closed and difficult to manipulate. But questions arise for the company because ordinary smartphones need a much cheaper cable for a similar connection.
