How much do Apple Vision Pro components cost?
In the research, the total cost of Vision Pro’s hardware components to Apple 1542 dollars. But don’t rush to be surprised by the almost $2,000 charge, because that’s not the final cost of the entire device. This does not include assembly costs (wages, factory maintenance, water and electricity costs), shipping, marketing and more.
- The most expensive component is the 1.25-inch micro OLED display, two of which are used in each Vision Pro. These are screens located inside the headset, one for each eye of the user. According to Omdia, Apple charges Sony $228 for each of these displays, adding a total of $456 to the headset.
- The second most expensive component of the Vision Pro, after the displays, are two chips: the M2 and the brand new R1. Apple says the R1 chip is specifically designed to process input from cameras, sensors, and microphones and deliver the image to the screen within 12 milliseconds.
- The cameras installed on the Vision Pro cost $150.
Because the number of parameters is so large, it’s almost impossible to tell what Apple’s final markup is (i.e. how much it makes from a device). The Vision Pro is a relatively small product for Apple. The company is expected to ship approximately 400,000 units in 2024. Therefore, when production increases, the price of components is likely to decrease.
According to rumors, the company is preparing a cheaper version of the headset, but there are no details about its price yet. If it does exist, it will offer more modest features and simpler components.
