Samsung’s latest campaign Promoting the Galaxy S24 Ultra works like an exchange: send us a like and we’ll send you a special photo from space, just for you. Something needed to be clarified.
As some answers point out, phones that take photos They weren’t actually in space, they were in the stratosphere. And of course, Samsung isn’t the first brand to attach its product to a stratospheric balloon to advertise.
But the images show that it is not necessary to reinvent the wheel to achieve a truly impressive result:
Samsung sent four S24 Ultras into the stratosphere hydrogen filled balloons (The only element lighter than helium). To do this, he ordered four carbon fiber frames equipped with a flight computer and launched them from different locations in the western United States: Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Sierra Nevada and the Grand Canyon.
The phones rose more than 36 kilometers. At this altitude, the atmosphere is thinner, the clouds are much lower, and the blue sky turns into a vast black void. The curvature of the Earth is perfectly visible on the horizon. However, there are still a few kilometers to go before the cliff that starts at 100 km.
The S24 Ultra is programmed to take occasional photos with its three lenses: wide-angle, ultra-wide-angle, and 5x zoom. The team carried out more than 150 seizures between January 25 and 31, 2024 and managed to recover each of the mobile phones by tracking their GPS location.
