We met the Google Pixel 7a in May last year. If Google continues the tradition, we will meet its successor, Pixel 8a, next month. This terminal has been leaking since last year, but this week we got another big leak regarding the specifications of this phone.

As said, the Pixel 8a will make a significant leap in some key features. So much so that it will practically rival its older brother Pixel 8. It is a dangerous strategy for your salesSince the Pixel 8 has been around for a while now, and that has an immediate translation: its price has dropped.

120Hz panel. One of the historical limitations of the Pixel A family was the refresh rate. Although the vast majority of mid-range mobile phones used the 120 Hz band, Google retained 90 Hz to differentiate its A models from the higher-end models.

The latest leaks point to a 6.1-inch panel with Full HD resolution, OLED technology and finally a 120 Hz refresh rate. The maximum brightness will be 1,400 nits, the same as Pixel 8. In other words, the panel, which saves on calibration and some details, will be quite similar to its older brother.

Google Tensor G3. Google Tensor G3 will be the processor of the Pixel 8a and will be exactly the same as its bigger brother. Memory configurations are predicted to be lower, so there are certain differences between one model and another, but a few gigabytes of RAM will not indicate a gap between both recommendations.

The Pixel 8 starts with 6+128GB of RAM, so the A is expected to continue with 6GB. 128GB of internal storage is inevitable, so both will start on equal footing.

Let’s talk about the camera. The camera is the Pixel’s raison d’être, what makes them unique. According to the latest leak, the Pixel 8a will have the same camera as the Pixel 7a, except for some processing differences. Thus, a 64-megapixel Sony IMX767 sensor with a size of 1/1.73″ will be mounted. It is a rather small sensor, but it gives good results.

This is where it differs most from the Pixel 8, with its 50-megapixel Samsung GNV sensor and 1/1.31″ size. However, Google has been showing for years that the size of the sensor does not affect the processing. It is surprising that both models take very similar photos.

Pixel 8a price. The key to the Pixel 8a’s price is… the Pixel 8’s price. Rumors point to a Pixel 8a price close to 600 euros; This is an unprecedented figure for a mid-range Google model. Pixel 8 launched at a price of 799 euros, but today you can buy it for under 600 euros.

If Google wants the Pixel 8a to take part in the market, its starting price should not exceed 500 euros. This is little more than a fantasy, as the Pixel 7a itself launches for 509 euros. Price drops will begin in a few months, but it will be difficult for Google itself to launch the Pixel 8a for almost the same amount as the Pixel 8 costs in regular offerings.
