In early January this year, we first saw the Google Pixel 9 and 9 Pro smartphones in leaked images. These were shared by trusted tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer (aka Onleaks). Now there is a twist in this story. He announced that the previously leaked standard and pro models will be sold as Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL, respectively. The latter marks the return of the XL name, which was last found on the Pixel 4 years ago.
This also raises the question of whether Google will release the standard Pixel 9. As seen in the leaked images, the answer seems to be yes.
According to the leaked images, Google Pixel 9 will share the same design with the Pro and Pro XL variants. It looks compact with its square design and flat frame. The phone also has curved corners. The power buttons and volume rocker are located on the right side. At the same time, there is a large, protruding, pill-shaped camera bridge on the back that does not extend to the corners like its predecessors.
In the renders, Pixel 9 has a screen with a notch in the middle and surrounded by symmetrical bezels on all sides. The main difference between the standard and professional models is that the former has a slightly smaller 6.03-inch screen compared to the 6.1-inch screen. The standard model will also have a dual camera and will not have a periscope lens as seen on the Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL.
In terms of dimensions, Onleaks says that the Pixel 9 will have a rear camera notch measuring 152.8×71.9×8.5 mm and 12 mm.
