Taiwan imposes new sanctions on Russia and Belarus: banned

Chips with a clock speed of more than 25 megahertz have been added to the export ban list. Also, the sanctions included the lithographic equipment used to make such chips.

Detail

The corresponding statement was made by the Taiwan Ministry of Economy. Specifically, he says, the MOEA has compiled a list of strategic high-tech products that are banned from exporting to Russia and Belarus. The latter is included in the list, as it can help Russia import such goods.

Microprocessor technology that meets at least one of three conditions is prohibited:

  • A speed of 5 gigaflops and above has been reached, or an arithmetic logic device has a bitrate of 32 bits or more.
  • The clock frequency of the electronic component exceeds 25 megahertz.
  • One or more ports or interfaces provide transfer rates of more than 2.5 megabytes per second between components.

Constructive design restrictions were also imposed: chips shipped to Russia and Belarus must have more than 144 contacts and a main shutter lag of less than 0.4 nanoseconds.

Also they are forbidden supply of certain types of lithographic equipmentused for chip fabrication using photo-optical or X-ray methods. For example, lithographic equipment with image projection and transfer, step-by-step processing (direct step on plates) or step-by-step scanning process (scanners). They are also forbidden processing and scanning electron microscopesIt is designed for automatic control of semiconductor device templates.
