Renovation KB5034441Designed to fix security vulnerabilities in Windows 10 recovery partition.
Microsoft has been aware of the issue since January but has yet to provide a definitive solution or a timeline for resolution.
How does it manifest?
The main problem is that the update is not installed properly, which often leads to an error in the code 0x80070643.
This error usually occurs when there is not enough space on the recovery partition to host the update, leaving users vulnerable to possible security breaches.
Specifically, the KB5034441 update fixes a critical vulnerability in BitLocker encryption (CVE-2024-20666) that could lead to unauthorized access to encrypted data if left unpatched.
Microsoft is in no rush to fix the problem
In response to user reports, Microsoft acknowledged the issue and suggested increasing the size of the recovery partition as a possible workaround. Additionally, the company has provided a PowerShell script as an alternative method to manually install the BitLocker security patch.
However, this solution turned out to be inconsistent in solving the installation problem, leaving users frustrated and vulnerable to security threats.
Microsoft still hasn’t given a specific timeline for when users can expect the final fix. In the meantime, Windows 10 users are advised to explore alternative security measures to reduce potential risks associated with a removed update.
