Cheap and easy-to-repair mobile phones: HMD has already launched its first family of devices
Until recently, talking about HMD meant talking about devices under the Nokia brand. Both companies have been working together for years and the launches took place under the umbrella of the historic company. This situation changes in 2024: we will finally see mobile phones under the HMD brand.
The first bet came from the manufacturer Under the roof of the Pulse family first terminals. These are entry-level mobile phones with less than stellar specifications, but they come with a surprise: These are devices that the user can repair himself.

Three siblings separated at birth
Although there are three different models, Pulse does not differ much from each other. They share the same design line with a pretty clean rear where the camera module plays a specific role. Although both cameras seem to have similar dimensions, this is not the case at all: The secondary camera of these phones is only two megapixels.
The main difference is that the Pro and Plus models They have a 50 megapixel main sensorwhile the base Pulse drops to 13 megapixels. The Pro model’s selfie camera is also better than its siblings: 50 megapixels versus 8.
They share a processor Slightly narrow input range UnisocSince the manufacturing process is 12 nanometers. Everyone’s display is a 6.65-inch LCD with a 90Hz refresh rate and 600 nits maximum brightness.
All three models come with Android 14, and the company promises two years of system updates and three security patches; This is the minimum required by Google to comply with Android regulations.
The key to these devices is that they are repairable, their reason for existence. HMD has announced that these three devices will be compatible with new EU requirements. They can be easily repaired. So much so that you can purchase a self-repair kit with each, in collaboration with iFixit.
This will allow easy replacement of items such as the battery or screen without the need for a lot of technical knowledge and some manuals. If we want to repair the device at home, we should not depend directly on the manufacturer.
