Three new cars added this month

ŠKODA Vision Gran Turismo

All-wheel drive electric single-seater from a renowned Czech manufacturer.

Taking advantage of the rich heritage of Škoda Motorsport, the Škoda design team has created a visionary project – an all-electric single-seat racing prototype: the ŠKODA Vision Gran Turismo. Created specifically for Gran Turismo, this prototype represents Škoda’s first model in the series. Inspired by the 1957 Škoda 1100 OHC Spyder racing car, originally developed for the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Vision Gran Turismo is a modern tribute to this legendary racing car and promises an exciting driving experience with excellent response.

The ŠKODA Vision Gran Turismo project began in 2019 when the design team revisited the iconic Škoda 1100 OHC. The team initially debated whether to restore the original 1100 OHC or create a futuristic variant designed for the digital age. In consultation with chief designer Oliver Stefani, the Škoda design team chose an innovative approach that brought together the past and the future.

This racing prototype pays tribute to its legendary predecessor and also incorporates the hallmarks of Škoda’s modern, robust design, as evidenced by the T-shaped headlights. The Vision Gran Turismo is available in two versions. One reflects the heritage of the famous Škoda 130 RS racing car from the 1970s. The other is inspired by the Vision 7S concept car, embodying Škoda’s strong and modern design philosophy.

The ŠKODA Vision Gran Turismo features an elegant appearance with clean lines and pronounced edges, emulating the aesthetics of current Formula E cars. Its design is optimized for superior handling through active aerodynamics. Features include a sculpted body to meet aerodynamic requirements and a striking two-piece adaptive rear spoiler, which together allow the car to dynamically adapt to driving conditions and enhance performance. The car is equipped with a wishbone suspension system mounted on a carbon monocoque, similar to those used in Formula E cars. As a result, this system improves stability at high speeds, reduces body roll and lowers the car’s center of gravity.

Efficiency and excellent driving dynamics are the fundamental design principles of the ŠKODA Vision Gran Turismo. It is equipped with two twin 200 kW (272 hp) electric motors, each located on each axle, and is capable of generating a total power of 800 kW (1,088 hp). All-wheel drive with intelligent torque distribution on both axles guarantees balanced and agile driving. This aspect is complemented by a smooth single-speed gearbox that provides seamless acceleration.

The design of the ŠKODA Vision Gran Turismo harmonizes the exterior with the interior, giving the driver a feeling of being one with the car (especially when entering the cockpit of the latest generation carbon monocoque).

AFEELA 2024 prototype

A revolutionary “mobile device” designed to change the way we spend our time on the road.

“Encourage people to seek innovation through various sources of inspiration.” Use cutting-edge technology and create a new kind of joy in movement to inspire others. It is for this purpose that Sony Honda Mobility was founded in 2022. This new company, a collaboration between two very different companies, unveiled the AFEELA Prototype 2024 BEV at the start of CES® 2024.

Externally, the car adopts the orthodox sedan-hatchback shape and flowing aerodynamic aesthetics. It is equipped with a number of sensors throughout the vehicle, including lidar located at the front of the roof, as well as other image sensors and radars. The high-precision data collected by these devices is used to provide more natural driving assistance.

The doors open automatically when the user approaches, so the car does not need handles. Looking at the front grille, you’ll see a customizable “media panel” – a digital display that allows you to express yourself and communicate while outside the car.

However, the AFEELA’s true appeal lies in its cabin. The cabin offers a wide range of features to ensure passengers are fully entertained.

The most obvious feature you’ll notice upon entering the car is the large dashboard screen that spans almost the entire width of the car. This screen offers not only vehicle information but also various entertainment options that can also be displayed on seatback screens facing the rear seats. In addition to being able to play music and watch movies, passengers can access a real-time 3D view of the vehicle’s surroundings via a suite of sensors, allowing them to enjoy the surrounding landscape as if they were in a video game.

However, the car’s appeal is not only visual. AFEELA also has a personal agent feature that allows passengers to interact with the car through natural speech. Likewise, the combination of Honda’s extensive experience in mobile technology and Sony’s technical expertise has resulted in an innovative noise-cancelling system that reduces street noise. Isolating noise from the outside world, the multiple speakers inside create an unparalleled soundstage.

AFEELA transforms the commuting experience from simply waiting to enjoying your time in the car. This 2024 prototype is a very important milestone in AFEELA’s process of moving closer to production for the market.

Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 Sports Coupe ’70

Popular in drag racing; It has incredible power thanks to its impressive engine.

Introduced for the 1964 model year, the Chevelle was Chevrolet’s first intermediate model. With the sport-grade SS model in the family and the option of a powerful 327 cubic-inch V8 engine, the Chevelle had all the trappings of a muscle car.

However, the following year, 1965, the Chevelle SS was transformed into a completely redesigned performance car, powered by a 396 cubic inch OHV V8 engine. From then on, the Chevelle SS was offered only with this 396 cubic inch engine, clearly differentiating it from the previous Super Sport.

In 1970, the Chevelle SS was considered the most powerful midsize model on the market. The engine line (which was only available in 396 cubic inches) was updated to offer a new 402 cubic inch model. An upgraded version of the 427 cubic inch engine was also offered, displacing 454 cubic inches.

The codes for the two 454 cubic inch model types offered were LS5 and LS6. The previous model produced 360 hp. at a compression ratio of 10.25:1. In the new model, the compression ratio was increased to 11.25:1 and, combined with tall camshafts and new high-volume manifolds, produced approximately 456 hp. At one time, it was the most powerful catalog engine in American automobile history.

The LS6-powered Chevelle SS454 was immediately recognized as a special model due to its unprecedented power for a road car. Equipped with a direct exhaust and carburetor configuration, it was said to easily exceed 500 hp. and was a leading contender in the stock car acceleration competition.
