According to the latest Global Monthly Phone Model Sales Tracker report prepared by analytics company Counterpoint Research, Apple and Samsung devices were among the undisputed leaders in the best-selling smartphones rankings in the first quarter of 2024. Counterpoint Research noted that the top 10 smartphones from these companies occupy five positions, leaving no room for other brands.
At the same time, the best-selling smartphone in the reporting quarter was Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro Max (pictured above). Considering that this is the first quarter in which Apple has not traditionally had the highest numbers in smartphone sales, this reflects a trend of increasing consumer preference for high-end smartphones, according to Counterpoint Research.
All four versions of the iPhone 15 entered the top 10 along with the iPhone 14. In addition, representatives of the iPhone 15 series took the first three places in the rating by a significant margin.
According to Counterpoint Research, the growing popularity of the iPhone Pro is quite obvious; because the iPhone Pro accounted for half of all Apple sales in the first quarter, compared to a 24% share in the first quarter of 2020. Analysts say the iPhone Pro smartphones have more features than the base models and this has proven to be a justified move as consumers are willing to pay for premium features. It is worth noting that Apple reported in its last quarterly report that demand for iPhone smartphones has decreased.
Samsung Galaxy S24 series smartphones were represented by two models in the top 10, while the Ultra version took fifth place in the rating, and the basic version took ninth place. Even at Samsung, models in the mid-price segment that are part of the Galaxy A series are in high demand.
Counterpoint Research noted that this is the first quarter in which all top 10 smartphones support 5G.
