It’s the time of year. Where Google has made the Pixel official at a slightly more affordable price. Google Pixel 8a wants to once again become a reference in the field of software and camera, showing that it is not always necessary to spend a huge amount of money to have a device that shines in both respects.
This phone, which has the same processor as Google Pixel 8 and Google Pixel 8 Pro, comes with many arguments to be one of the new references in its price range.

Little brother is a little small
Can you tell which one is the Pixel 8a? This is no simple task. The model in the middle of the photo: practically a copy of the Pixel 8 itself. When we look at the back compared to its siblings, we see that this new generation Pixel is a little more modest, with slightly more rounded corners. Camera module with smaller camera sensors.
Interesting fact: Although the Pixel 8a’s screen is 6.1 inches compared to the Pixel 8’s 6.2, It’s slightly taller and wider than the Pixel 8 itself. It inherits from it the main technologies of its display: 2,000 nits and 1,400 maximum brightness in HDR (barbarous figures for this price), a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz (without adaptive refresh) and Gorilla Glass protection. In this case, the third generation of Corning emerges.
The processor is the same one included in the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro: a Tensor G3 that doesn’t reach the levels of the best Qualcomm processors in the high range, but is more than right for heavy gaming and heavy app use. It is accompanied by 8 GB LPDDR5X type RAM with 128 or 256 GB UFS 3.1 type internal memory configurations. Good news that will guarantee more than correct performance year after year.
The latter is especially important because this Pixel promises seven years of OS updates. These are big words: If Android continues as before, this phone will reach version 21. Monthly update patches come in the package, of course.
The Pixel 8a’s battery is 4,492mAh, and fast charging drops to 18W. While this is undoubtedly the weakest point in a phone whose final price exceeds 500 euros, it should help preserve the lifespan of the battery over time.
Focus is on the camera as always
Let’s talk about the camera a little bit, because it’s important to clarify some numbers. This phone has a 64 megapixel main camera: more resolution Does it mean it will take better photos than the 50-megapixel cameras the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro have? At least on paper, no.
This Pixel 8a’s sensor is smaller, providing a final pixel size of 0.8μm. The numbers coincide with an “old” acquaintance: the Pixel 7a, with which it likely shares the same sensor. Although it doesn’t have the same photo power, the software is best shared with Google phones.
Versions and price of Google Pixel 8a
Google Pixel 8a goes on sale today, starting from May 7 549 euros for the 8 + 128 GB version. As a launch promotion, if you buy this phone and hand over a suitable old phone, you will receive both the value of the phone that Google gave us and a 150 euro discount on the Pixel 8a.
