We talked in detail about everything shown at Google I/O 2024 in a separate article. There you can learn more about the operation and capabilities of the Project Astra function.

Is Google developing glasses?

The presentation video started with an unknown employee of the company walking around the room with his smartphone and communicating with the artificial intelligence, giving it tasks and asking questions. It is not known exactly why he went through this whole process, but we can see both of his hands in the frame.

In one of the missions at 1:13 he asks Gemini: “Do you remember where you saw my glasses?”

The machine responds: “Yes, I remember. Your glasses were on the table next to the red apple.”even though this object was not in view at the time the question was asked.

A second later, we see that the girl actually finds the glasses next to the apple and puts them on. In the next frame, the author of the video is shown from the side for a second and we see that he is wearing glasses.

Then the shooting continues and a special frame blackout technique makes it clear that everything was now filmed with the help of these glasses. We hear the signal to start recording and an icon appears in the middle of the screen indicating that the microphones are hearing the conversation. This not only shows us that the glasses are unusual – they at least have some sort of interface and therefore have their own software – but also that interaction with Gemini and its new Project Astra feature is not only possible through a smartphone. but through smart glasses that will look at the world through cameras and listen to commands through microphones.

Another interesting point is that the screen now shows the answers to the questions given by Gemini. The glasses copy text onto its screen in front of the user’s eyes, providing it with spoken phrases.

what it is

So what conclusion can we draw from this? Nothing like the failed Google Glass, the glasses with clear lenses and large frames have a camera, microphones, their own software and interface, project images onto the lens in front of the eyes, accept voice commands and interact with artificial intelligence. They didn’t look very big.

Could it be a third-party product that Google easily integrates with its AI? Quite a few. We still don’t have an answer to this mystery because the company is not commenting on it in any way.

But we also know this Google hasn’t given up on its hopes and attempts to develop such a device.Even though he had rejected several previous projects. A few years ago, the company released a futuristic video showing its vision of the future of augmented reality glasses. For example, in the video, they provided real-time translation of a live conversation with a foreign language speaker.

Such glasses are also expected to superimpose virtual elements on the real world, giving users various clues about where to go and what to see, narrating historical information, and providing assistance at work, at home, or on the go. In general, its areas of use are as diverse as possible, especially in combination with artificial intelligence.

After previous failures Google may be developing next-generation smart glasses, but keep them a secretTo avoid being burned again for not fulfilling any of his promises.
