Engineers have created a working version of the Dune suit that turns sweat into water

The team developed a working version of the suit using basic technologies. 24 Channels. While Hacksmith’s version lacks the sleek look of the suits seen in the 2021 film adaptation, it successfully captures and recycles moisture from the body by allowing filtered water to pass through the tube.

How does everything work?

The installation included a thermoelectric cooler commonly used to cool computers and devices.

  • The cold side of the cooler inside the suit acts as a dehumidifier by drawing moisture from the trapped air.
  • This moisture is then collected in a drinking bladder with a built-in filter, allowing you to consume recycled water.

Despite its crude appearance, the dress demonstrated that the concept of moisture-recycling clothing was possible. The experiment aroused curiosity and cleared up some misconceptions within the Hacksmith team.

While the actual version of the suit is far from a practical solution for desert survival, especially when compared to the advanced technology showcased in Dune, it serves as an impressive demonstration of the feasibility of the concept.

Moreover, the assembly of the suit was completed in just one day, demonstrating the potential for further development and innovation in this field. Presumably, further work on improving the suit will allow creating a comfortable, working version for use in real conditions of the harsh climate of arid deserts.
