And the problem is not that a high-end price goes above 1,000 euros, the problem is that if we want to buy a phone in the 500 euro range, processors are often quite underwhelming. The Pixel 8a is a big exception, and in my analysis I highlighted how essential it is to have high-quality processors in relatively low-priced phones.
Xiaomi has introduced the POCO F6, a phone with a processor that is interestingly (in some ways) better than the POCO F6 Pro itself. What’s important beyond this curiosity is that this phone gives us back the sweet aroma of POCOPHONE. F1. It is the most balanced power-priced phone on the market and is a real target for the high range.

In the case of POCO F6, we are talking about Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 accompanied by UFS 4.0 memories (the highest at the moment) and LPDDR5X. In other words, we get the best of the high end for less than half the cost of the high end.
The processor issue is also very curious. POCO F6 Pro has Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. POCO F6 has Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. Which is better?
The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is a smaller variant of Qualcomm’s latest processor, the 8 Gen 3. So despite having newer, more efficient cores (every single one) at the CPU level, Qualcomm trimmed its GPU to make the Gen 2 more powerful. Specifically, we’re talking about the Adreno 735 GPU in the 8s Gen 3 and the Adreno 740 in Gen 2.
Comparisons give us similar data between the two; The 8s Gen 3 wins in tests like AnTuTu 10 or GeekBench. In short: in terms of power it has absolutely nothing to envy from the Pro model and in fact It has a more modern processor.
90W fast charging, OIS, liquid cooling, Gorilla Glass Victus… Yes, Xiaomi is always more aggressive about margins, but these features are what we expect from a phone between 800 and 1,000 euros (the top end is “non-premium”).
This is not a tribute to POCO F6. Actually, it seems to me like the price a phone in this range should have. This is a reflection of how offerings like the 8s Gen 3 can bring back devices with enough power throughout the day at an affordable price… As long as the producer is willing.
