Samsung is working on a 2nm process, and the company wants to be the first to launch such chips, leaving TSMC behind. According to Gizmochina, the company received the first order for 2 nm chip production from the Japanese company Preferred Networks (PFN).
It was also revealed that the South Korean company has launched a chip production project under the code name Tethys using the 2nm process and that it will eventually be released under the Exynos brand. Samsung is serious about competing with Qualcomm and MediaTek. For now, Samsung is reportedly continuing its line of advanced devices featuring Qualcomm chips.
The 2nm production Tethys is expected to be ready for mass production in 2025 and could be connected to the Exynos 2600, which is expected to be used in the Galaxy S26 series. The company had previously announced that it would start mass production of 2nm chips in 2025.
Last year’s Galaxy S23 series was powered solely by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. This year, Samsung returned to its dual strategy with the Exynos 2400 and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip used in different regions. TSMC is also working on 2nm chips and mass production is expected to start in 2025.
