I recently visited some Apple labs where new iPhones are tested for durability before they hit the market, and I learned a few things:

#1: Have you ever seen how they test phones for IP ratings?

#2: There is a room full of water testing machines

Level 1: A drip tray that simulates rain, not real pressure. IPX4
Level 2: Continuous low-pressure jet from all angles. IPX5
Level 3: High-pressure spray from a real fire hose. IPX6
Level 4: Soak phone under water + extra pressure to simulate depth for longer periods of time. IPX8

#3: Apple apparently bought the industrial robot and programmed it as its own drop testing machine to simulate hundreds of different drop angles on different materials.
