Live Translation is one of Galaxy AI’s most interesting new features. We are talking about a function supported and operated by artificial intelligence. interpreter for phone calls so we can communicate with people who speak a language different from ours. Since the translation is done in real time with synthetic voices, it is very transparent and simple to use.
Of course, the instant translation that the South Korean company offers us can be very useful, for example, when traveling. It now has a very important limitation: It can only be used via the phone application of some devices in the Galaxy family. Therefore, the benefits of Live Translation are limited to calls we make or receive through our carrier.
Samsung will expand Live Translate to third-party apps
Samsung announced this week that Live Translate will also be available in third-party apps. The news was announced by Won-joon Choi from the company’s research and development office. The executive did not give an exact date for the promising rollout but described the move as “exciting” and added that it would happen “soon.”
Our colleagues at Xataka Móvil had the opportunity to try Live Translation and concluded that it is a very useful tool. Starting from these premises, we will find new ways to enjoy benefits such as WhatsApp, Zoom or Google Meet voice calls when they become available outside the Phone app on Galaxy devices.
It should be noted that Choi did not specify how Live Translate will work with third-party applications. We do not know whether the system will be responsible for directly offering translation functions in all applications with voice functions or whether we will find a list of compatible applications. We also do not know whether the innovation will reach all devices that currently support Live Translation.
According to the manufacturer’s page, Galaxy AI automatic translation works with One UI 6.1 on the Galaxy S24, S23, S23 FE, S22, Z Fold5, Z Fold4, Z Flip5, Z Flip4, and the Galaxy Tab S9 5G and Tab S8 5G. We have to wait to learn more details about the announcement, but we cannot deny that the possibility of using such an interesting function with other applications is very good news.
