American automaker Buick, one of the oldest concerns and GM sub-brand, plans to abandon its gasoline past and become an electric-only car brand. The company unveiled the Wildcat electric concept car and said it is preparing for a global rebrand.
The Wildcat doesn’t have specific specs yet – the concept car is just meant to give a hint of what future Buick electric cars will look like. The model is delivered in a sports coupe format with a long body and an aggressive design reminiscent of the brand’s older models.
The Wildcat’s hood features the Electra brand logo – a logo used by the company in 1959. It is expected that in the future all series Buick cars will receive such emblems and the old logo will disappear.
The Buick brand wants an all-electric future by the end of this decade. The new Buick logo, the use of Electra series names and the new design of our future products will change the brand,
Said Buick Vice President Duncan Aldred.
As for electric car production, Buick plans to launch its first electric car in 2024. It is currently unknown what he will do after leaving office.
In addition, Buick said that the manufacturer plans to look after the interests of its fans and will therefore prioritize large crossovers. Between 2024 and 2030, Buick will gradually expand its fleet with new electric vehicles that will phase out internal combustion engines, and will abandon the “dirty” car supply altogether by the end of the decade.
The announcement of Buick electrification is an important event not only for the company itself, but also for parent General Motors. The company became the latest GM sub-brand to include Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac to develop a roadmap for the abandonment of internal combustion engines. If all these companies stick to their strategy, the American auto conglomerate will be a CO2-emission company by 2035.
