Toyota introduces electricity storage system for home use

For Toyota, the geographic expertise of the new solution is reflected even in the name of the system. O-Uchi KyudenAs well as adaptations to the standard for local electrical networks with a voltage of 100 volts. The weather-protected battery case allows you to install it outdoors, designed to work in the temperature range from minus 20 to plus 45 degrees Celsius.

The battery itself can feed consumers with dimensions of 1142x341x432 mm and a weight of 142 kg, a capacity of 8.7 kW/h and a total capacity of 5.5 kW. The system also includes a hybrid power control unit weighing 33 kg, a DC transformer of 9 kg and an adapter of the same weight for connecting to the vehicle. The latter can be used to charge its own traction battery and power the home network while disconnecting the central power supply. But in this case, the power of connected household consumers will not exceed 1.1 kW.

A dedicated smartphone app has also been developed to control the system, but is currently only available in Japanese. The novelty will go on sale in August, but only in Japan. Construction companies will expand the system in the local market.

Tesla and other competitors

It will be remembered that Tesla has expanded its Powerwall home energy storage systems since 2015, with Mercedes-Benz and Renault joining later. As a rule, such systems are equipped with traction batteries, which allows to extend their life cycle.

More than a month ago, Elon Musk transferred solar panels and Tesla Powerwall energy saving systems to Ukraine. All this time they have been supplying electricity to critical infrastructure in the Kyiv region.

The occupied areas, which have suffered the most from the Russians, are experiencing electrical problems, and Tesla Powerwall stations provide backup power during power outages. This state-of-the-art equipment will assist the Ukrainians in the areas most damaged by the Russian occupation.
