Vietnamese create impressive wooden cars with complex mechanisms

Van Dao has long been known for his wooden cars and showcases them on his YouTube channel. Truong Van Dao’s YouTube channel has come a long way in the past three years. He started by carving shoebox-sized replicas of classic luxury cars and supercars.

His early works quickly gained worldwide attention, especially after he created a small wooden replica of a Ferrari that his son could sit in. Eventually, the blogger’s later works included a series of supercar replicas, including a fully operational wooden version of the Bugatti.

With the emergence of a persistent audience, Truong’s projects increased in size and complexity. Since then, he has created wooden tanks, trains, scooters and numerous mini supercars, each more complex than the next. But his latest creation goes beyond traditional vehicle design and enters the realm of pure mechanical fantasy art.

Wooden “time machine”

Inspired by generative artificial intelligence, Truong developed the wooden “time machine” concept. He designed a simple metal frame with steering, suspension and a small electric drive.

He then branched out into woodworking, creating solid wood front wheels with intricate clockwork-style hubs and massive snail-shell rings at the rear that resemble the horns of a spinning ram. The car can also show off the curved wooden roof, headlights and neon lighting in the interior.

One of the most impressive features of Truong’s creation is a set of front-gear lever mechanisms. When activated, these mechanisms create wave-like movements that add a strange, almost surreal element to the vehicle.

Despite its complexity and impracticality, the wooden “time machine” has a unique charm that attracts the attention of local residents. They often laugh as Truong moves down the street, peering through the small slit in the slowly working alien jaws that allow him to see the road ahead.
