HMD Global, the company behind current Nokia-branded phones, looks set to revive the Lumia name in the spirit of the upcoming Skyline series. Leaks earlier this month revealed that HMD was working on a new phone called Skyline. The images we’ve seen so far show that Skyline’s design will be similar to the classic Nokia Lumia series. It turns out there’s more to Skyline’s story than we first thought.
Reliable liker @smashx_60, known for HMD-related leaks, reported that HMD is working on a second Skyline device called the HMD Skyline G2. It’s unclear whether this is a direct sequel to the first Skyline or a completely separate device. Still, the launch of the G2 seems a long way off, as the first Skyline hasn’t been officially announced yet.
It is said that, like the first Skyline, the G2 will have a triple camera system on the back. While the exact camera setup is unknown, the author shared four possible configurations, one of which includes a 200-megapixel primary camera. All setups also feature a telephoto lens, an ultra-wide sensor, and time-of-flight (ToF) sensors, and that’s because HMD will reportedly target the G2 at mobile photography enthusiasts.
The most notable difference between the two Skyline models is the bezels. The initial leak showed the phone with a prominent chin and relatively thin bezels on the sides and top. In contrast, the G2 is said to have thick bezels on both the top and bottom, giving it a more vintage look.
Unlike the original Skyline leak, which included specs and pricing information, there are fewer details about the G2. We have to wait for further leaks or official announcements to know more about the HMD Skyline G2 hardware, software and release date.
