Mac users often put off deleting unnecessary files until they run out of storage space. Bananabin aims to change that using a simple yet creative approach: when the trash reaches a certain data threshold, animated flies start buzzing around the basket icondraws the user’s attention to the need to clean.

Users can swat away flies using the mouse cursor, but they will reappear until the basket is empty.

How does the programme work?

The Bananabin app offers three modes that allow you to customize the appearance of the flies depending on the amount of data in the bin.

  • In the mood “Doorman” Flies appear when there is more than 10MB of data in the trash.
  • For the regime “User” A threshold of 1 GB was set.
  • There is also a mode “Garbage collector” and here flies remind to clear 10 GB of data in the trash.

Banana right now available for free It’s in beta testing. However, the developers plan to introduce a small one-time fee for using the app after that period, although the exact amount has not yet been determined.
