They’ve never had the best processor, the best display, or the most cutting-edge hardware. The Pixel 9 leaks and rumors make Google’s new philosophy clear: They want to compete directly with the iPhone.
The latest rumor comes from Etnews and reaffirms what we thought we already knew: we will indeed be looking at a top-of-the-line phone this year. Specifically, it has been leaked that Samsung Display will be responsible for distributing the M14 panel in the Pixel 9 series models. It is the same codename as the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max panels.
The best display on a Pixel. Since last year, Google has started to take the screen issue more seriously. The 2,000 nits of the Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8 and 8a are proof of this. Yes, there are phones that promise much more nits, but as an analyst who has tested all three, I can assure you that the phones with the best screens are not the ones that promise that many nits.
