There were previously rumors that the clamshell Huawei Nova series could be released in July, but a new leak claims that the phone could be launched as early as August.
The news comes from Weibo (a Chinese microblogging site) with the caption “Dingjiao Digital”. The Nova series flip phone will be priced relatively lower than the Huawei Pocket 2 that was released in February this year. The Nova series foldable device could cost around 4,000-5,000 yuan (~$550-$688), which will attract many new users to the world of foldable devices. However, the source claims that the phone will feature the same processor as the recently released Pura 70 Satellite Messaging Edition.
For those who don’t know, the Huawei Pura 70 Satellite Messaging Edition is powered by the Kirin 9010E chipset. It includes one 2.19GHz Taishan core, two 2.18GHz Taishan cores, three 1.55GHz Cortex-A510 cores, and a 750MHz Maleoon 910 GPU. Compared to the Kirin 9010, the processor runs at a 111MHz lower clock frequency, while the other cores run at almost the same frequencies.
The Nova series flip model will reportedly have a different exterior design compared to the Huawei Pocket 2. As you can see from the image above, the Huawei Pocket 2 comes with a small, circular outer screen. The new flip phone is expected to have a larger external screen that will be more functional than the Pocket 2.
To give you an idea of what to expect, the Huawei Pocket 2 features a 6.94-inch LTPO OLED display that offers a resolution of 1136 x 2690 pixels (~420 ppi) and reaches a maximum brightness of 2200 nits. The outer circular display also features an LTPO OLED panel that measures 1.15-inches and has a resolution of 360 x 360 pixels. The phone houses a quad camera setup on the back, consisting of an XMAGE 50 MP + 8 MP + 12 MP + 2 MP. The 50-megapixel main camera and an 8-megapixel 3x telephoto camera support OIS. The 2-megapixel hyperspectral camera is said to use AI. On the front, there’s a 10.7-inch punch-hole selfie camera. The Pocket 2 is powered by the Kirin 9000S chipset.
