Apple’s upcoming iPhone 16 Pro will feature a periscope camera with a tetraprism and 5x optical zoom, which was introduced on the iPhone 15 Pro Max last year DigiTimesTaiwanese lens manufacturers Largan Precision and Genius Electronic Optical (GSEO) are believed to be the main suppliers of the iPhone 16 Pro’s tetraprism camera components. Sources close to the supply chain stated that Largan and GSEO are currently ramping up production in preparation for the launch of the iPhone 16 series.

Largan, which supplies periscope lenses for the ‌iPhone 15 Pro‌ Max, is expected to fill a significant portion of the orders. Largan CEO Adam Lin recently said that peak sales in the optical components sector are expected from September to November, in line with the expected release period of the iPhone 16 Pro models.

The GSEO, which has just entered the supply chain for this ingredient, is reported to have passed quality tests with promising results. Accordingly DigiTimesGSEO periscopic lenses are currently undergoing testing and are expected to begin production in mid-July if they pass the required tests.

The tetraprism periscopic lens found on the ‌iPhone 15 Pro‌ Max offers up to 5x optical zoom and up to 25x digital zoom, a significant improvement over previous models that were limited to a maximum of 3x optical zoom. In addition to improving optical zoom with the telephoto camera, the periscope lens is also expected to improve overall image stabilization and low-light performance.
