Motorola releases Android 14 update for 2023 Razr phones

Motorola’s It has a history of slow software updates for its devices. The company is aggressive in offering the best hardware specifications for its price but often ignores the importance of regular software updates to ensure long-term usability and security. And this trend applies to all its devices, be they budget or flagship models.

For example, the Motorola Razr 2023 foldable phones were launched with Android 13 and remained on that old version until recently. Thankfully, there are now reports confirming that Motorola has started rolling out the Android 14 update to these phones.

The update, which first appeared on Reddit and was later confirmed by tech blogs like 9to5Google , brings Android 14 and the May 2024 security patch to previous Razr and Razr+ models. Razr+ users also get a few new features, like the Always On Display (AOD) feature for the external display.

But before you get too excited, know that this update isn’t out to everyone just yet. It appears to be a phased rollout, meaning some users may get the update and others may not. It’s likely just a waiting game until it reaches all compatible devices.

The focus is currently on the US market. Users outside the US may have to wait a bit longer. Motorola’s official website also has a support page for the update, but international rollout has not started yet.

This slow update strategy comes almost nine months after Google released Android 14 for Pixel phones. While Motorola should be given credit for finally getting the update out, the slow rollout and lack of clear communication leaves a lot to be desired.

With all this talk about Android 14, it’s natural to wonder about the upcoming Android 15. With its release on the horizon, the question remains: will the Razr and Razr+ get this update, and if so, when?
