Samsung’s latest foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Fold 6, is set to be unveiled at Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event on July 10. But there have been rumors of a slimmer, higher-end version of the Fold 6. A new report coming next week suggests that’s not entirely out of place.

According to TheElec, Samsung is indeed working on a thinner version of the Z Fold 6 with a larger display. The report claims that the phone will have a 6.5-inch display and a large 8-inch internal display, compared to the Z Fold 6’s rumored 6.3-inch and 7.6-inch standard displays, respectively.

This thinner Z Fold 6 is reportedly scheduled to launch in the fourth quarter of 2024 with a limited production run of 400,000 to 500,000 units. Availability will also be limited, with China being one of the few rumored markets.

Samsung’s goal appears to be to demonstrate its ability to create a foldable phone that’s thinner than current models. However, achieving this thinner profile reportedly comes at the expense of S Pen support, as the digital converter required for stylus functionality has been omitted.

The Elec report also mentions the high-end features of this variant, but the details have not been revealed. Previous rumors suggested a possible camera upgrade for the Z Fold 6, which is thinner compared to the standard Fold 6. However, the report does not confirm this.

A source from Samsung’s supply chain says development of the thinner Z Fold 6 has begun in the first quarter of 2024. Given Samsung’s typical one-year development cycle for high-end phones, the launch delay compared to the standard Z Fold 6 is consistent with this information.

The thinner Z Fold 6, with larger displays and potentially more powerful specs, is expected to carry a higher price tag than its standard counterpart. While Samsung’s strategy is to target a premium, sophisticated experience for a select market, the standard Z Fold 6 appeals to a wider audience.
