Although Android 15 is still in development, many smartphone brands are already rolling out the beta version, allowing users to get an early look at the new operating system. Unfortunately, Motorola is not as excited as its users, which is why it is always late to the software update party.

Google, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Oppo, and Nothing are among the brands that have announced the Android 15 beta. Motorola hasn’t joined the party yet, and based on past releases, we don’t expect it to do so anytime soon.

If you’re eagerly awaiting the Android 15 update, make sure you have the right Motorola smartphone that’s eligible for the update. Check out the list below to see which Motorola phones won’t be getting the update.

Like other smartphone brands, Motorola is yet to release an official list of devices that support Android 15. The above list is an unofficial list that we have prepared after analyzing the software update policy for each smartphone.

Motorola does not have a proper software policy. However, the brand has recently changed its software policy to compete better with Samsung, OnePlus and other brands. Most high-end phones are now eligible for three OS updates.

Motorola also offers three Android updates for some mid-range phones, but its budget Moto series only gets one major update. Rivals Samsung and Google recently changed their update policies to offer seven years of Android updates for their flagship phones.

When will Motorola start rolling out Android 15?

It’s July 2024, and Motorola hasn’t even finished shipping Android 14. This isn’t just Android 14; it’s the same story every year.

Software updates have never been a plus for Motorola, and the brand hasn’t done much serious work to improve them. Android 15 is currently in the platform stability phase, which is the final stage of development before a stable version is released.

The official timeline doesn’t reveal a release date or month, but there are speculations that it will make an appearance alongside the Pixel 9 series at the Made by Google event on August 13. Android 14 was released in October last year. So, it’s likely that the new OS should receive a stable release by October.

Motorola has yet to announce an Android 15 beta program for any of its phones, and we don’t expect it until later this year. As for the stable update, it’s likely to launch in late December or early 2025.

When the update arrives, the Razr 40 and Edge 50 series will likely be among the first Motorola phones to receive the Android 15 update, with the update gradually rolling out to other models later.

Android 15: What to expect?

The last two versions (Android 13 and Android 14) were not impressive in terms of new features and updates. However, Android 15 brings tons of new features and improvements as well as AI intelligence.

Among the big updates in Android 15 is support for satellite connectivity. The new operating system supports SMS, MMS, and pre-installed RCS apps to use satellite connectivity to send and receive texts even when there is no cell tower nearby.

Google has improved smartphone location tracking significantly. Its new Find My Device can use a network of over a billion Android devices to help you find your lost device. This is already available on Android devices, but Android 15 takes it to the next level by adding anti-theft protection.

If someone snatches your Android device and runs away, the device will automatically detect the movement and block it. Best of all, after the device is factory reset, it requires you to sign in to the same Google account for setup. Otherwise, it will not work.

Android 15 has a new feature called “Private Space” to protect your files and apps that you want to stay private. You can set a different blocking factor for your private space and use a different Google account.

Everything you do in your private space is not known to other users. Apps you open will not appear in recent apps and any apps you download will remain there. This is a useful feature to protect finance and other critical apps.

Another useful feature in Android 15 is app pairs. You will be able to create app pairs to quickly open your favorite apps in split-screen mode. You can create a shortcut for your favorite program combinations. As stated on the official website, this feature is only available on devices with wide screens (tablets, foldables).

The new operating system also offers partial screen sharing, which lets you show the screen or record a single program instead of the entire screen. So with Android 15, you can be sure that the other person isn’t looking at other apps on your device.
