Huawei As it prepares to challenge the foldable phone market once again, rumors are circulating that the world’s first tri-foldable phone will be released soon. According to Fixed Focus Digital posted on Weibo today, the device is expected to be released within two months.

The source also notes that the upcoming foldable device will be expensive and limited in number, but the leak suggests that Huawei’s triple-decker platform could be a “show of force” rather than an immediate market dominance.

New and innovative products usually come with a high price tag, but as technology advances and production scales increase, the price is naturally expected to drop. In addition, the source suggests that this tri-fold phone could eventually replace both the iPad and the current foldable phones on the market. Whether these goals will be realized is not yet known.

The leakster didn’t reveal the phone’s specifications, but a report from earlier this month suggested the overall display size is around 10 inches. The phone’s design is said to feature a unique dual-hinged system that creates three separate sections of the display.

One part is said to be bent inwards on both sides, while the other is bent outwards. The report also suggests that wrinkle control, a persistent problem with foldable displays, could be improved on this device.

Huawei’s triple patent

Other than that, we don’t know much about the specs of the upcoming tri-fold device. However, Huawei’s search for a tri-fold phone has been a long one. They started filing patents for the technology as early as 2021, with more documents being filed in 2022. Another patent filed in February 2023 shows a tri-fold phone with two hinges and a flexible display that folds outward, as we mentioned earlier.
