Details of the incident
The passengers were taken to hospital with “non-life-threatening injuries,” the report said. All survived.
Authorities have yet to explain how the car full of people ended up underwater, but the environment around the water heater shows how easy it could have been: The Semi-Centennial Geyser is located right next to the park’s Grand Loop Trailand only a small downhill hill separates the road from the water. It is quite understandable that a driver who loses control near a geyser would find himself in such an unlikely place.

Fortunately, all occupants of the vehicle were safe, according to National Park Service reports. They are in relatively good shape. But the car wasn’t so lucky; it remained in the acid bath all night, until the next day when authorities closed the road and lifted the car with a crane. It’s not known what condition the car is in now, but it’s clear that the geyser environment didn’t have the best effect on it.
The accident is reportedly still under investigation, so no definitive conclusions have been reached yet.
