As a result, the popular messaging team What’s up is finally narrowing down its mobile audience to Android and iOS based device users. As users of simple phones with the KaiOS platform started reporting, their messengers stopped opening and working.
For example, a user complained about this issue Nokia 6300 4GI bought it two years ago. The phone runs KaiOS with version number 2.5.4. According to WhatsApp support at the time of writing, the messenger should support phones with KaiOS 2.5.0 and above.
Users are reporting issues with WhatsApp after installing version 2.2329.13 of the messenger. When I try to run the program, I get the error message “Something went wrong” with no further details. This issue mainly affects new users, while those who are already logged into their accounts are still able to use the app.
Meanwhile, KaiOS Support is giving up hope on users and states the following:
WhatsApp has announced that it is shutting down its service on the KaiOS platform. For KaiOS devices purchased and activated before June 25, 2024, the app will work until early 2025 if the user is already logged into WhatsApp. WhatsApp will no longer be supported on devices that have never logged in or out of their WhatsApp account, starting June 25, 2024.
This applies to phones such as: JioPhone, JioPhone 2, Nokia 800 Tough, Nokia 2720 Flip, Nokia 2760 Flip, Nokia 2780 Flip, Nokia 6300 4G, Nokia 8000 4G and Nokia 8110 4Gas well as some Alcatel and Energizer models. WhatsApp is also not available on KaiOS 3.0 and until February 2025 the messaging app will be available to new users logging into the system.
