Google surprised a few weeks ago by announcing the date of its Made by Google 2024 event. With the latest generations presented in September and October (two of the most booked months for presentations and launches), it was expected that Google would follow the same schedule for this year, but no. To get ahead of the conference, the Google Pixel 9 will be presented on August 13.
But as is customary, leaks are flying and for weeks there has been talk of both the new Google Pixel 9 and the second generation of the foldable Pixel Fold, which is not coming to Spain. Google is tired of these leaksThat’s why he decided to take the quick route: show off the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel Fold 2 before their presentation.
New module for everyone
Let’s start with the Pixel 9 Pro. Rumors have emerged in recent weeks about both the price hike of the new models and a feature that would be quite desirable. The problem is that Google has kept an optical fingerprint sensor in the display, which, while not spotty, was not the fastest, but that is something that could change with a new ultrasonic sensor that is currently unconfirmed.
As for the design, the company has maintained a distinctive camera module ever since Google redesigned the device with the Pixel 6. Whether it has more or fewer sensors, the Pixel’s camera module has moved from side to side on the back, something that will change in this generation.
In this first video published by Made by Google, we can see the rear design of the Pixel 9 Pro, which has an oval camera module that no longer reaches the extreme points. Maintains three sensors (wide angle, wide angle and telephoto are claimed) and we see both the flash and a sensor just below it. Will they repeat the temperature sensor of the Pixel 8 Pro or will they opt for a LIDAR like on the iPhone?
Also something we can feel in the video is that the back will abandon the curved formatThe screen will also be flat, something we already saw on last year’s model, and the bezels appear to cover more of the edges. In fact, it looks a bit like the Galaxy S24, with its rear, front and side design.
In the video that we left just above these lines, we can see that Google also wants to put an end to the rumors and leaks about the Pixel Fold 2. It was already talked about that the camera module would be redesigned, but this is something that Google also confirmed in the video and means a bigger difference between the Pixel and the Pixel Fold.
The Pixel Fold’s camera module was actually very similar to the one the Pixel 9 will have, but this folding video also allows us to intuit something.Internal display bezels will be slightly narrowerWith the first generation, most of the criticism was about just how wide the top and bottom bezels were.
Beyond the camera modules, Google warns that the new Pixels are mobiles created for the Gemini era (that is, the era of artificial intelligence). They had followed this path years ago, but it was the protagonist of the presentation of the Pixel 8 and with the rise of Samsung’s AI and Apple Intelligence, Google cannot be left behind.
We will have to wait until 19:00 Spain time on August 13 to find out the other details we will tell in Xataka.
