At its annual event yesterday, Xiaomi unveiled a number of new devices, including the book-style Xiaomi Mix Fold 4, the smaller Xiaomi Mix Flip, the Xiaomi Smart Band 9, and the Xiaomi Watch S4 Sport.

Speaking of the foldable, book-style device, shock resistance is reportedly increased by up to 300% over the previous model. The Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 weighs 226 grams, measures 4.59mm folded and 9.47mm folded. For context, the recently launched Honor Magic V3 measures 4.35mm unfolded and 9.2mm folded.

According to the report, Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 is Xiaomi’s first phone to use carbon fiber structure inside. The floating hinge plate, display support, and battery compartment of the middle plate are made of T800H high-strength carbon material, which increases impact resistance by 300%.

The carbon fiber used inside the device is reported to have a tensile strength of 5,500 MPa. For reference, this is 13 times more than 6M42 aluminum alloy and 25 times more than regular aluminum alloy. Another advantage of the new material is its lightness. To be more precise, its weight is only 1/15 of 6M42 aluminum alloy. This must be one of the factors that contributed to the 29-gram reduction in the weight of the device compared to its predecessor.

The device features a 7.98-inch foldable LTPO AMOLED panel with a resolution of 2224 x 2488 that reaches a peak brightness of 3000 nits. The diagonal of the display is 6.56 inches, which also reaches the same maximum brightness level. It offers a resolution of 1080 x 2520 pixels (21:9).

The device runs HyperOS based on Android 14 and is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. This is paired with up to 1TB storage and 16GB RAM.
