We’re a little over two weeks away from Google’s Pixel 9 family reveal, and we already know there’ll be at least a Pixel 9 Pro and a Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Rumors and leaks are coming in thick and fast, and there’s one particularly noteworthy one among the latest.
Hello Pixel 9 Pro “compact”. Months ago it was leaked that there would be a new member of the family, the Pixel 9 Pro XL. This model will not be larger than the current Pixel 8 Pro and they will take advantage of this last name to launch a model that has created many expectations: a Pixel 9 Pro that will theoretically be “compact”. At least if we compare it to its older brother.
Alternative to iPhone 15 Pro. Google’s move, if confirmed, would mean that we are facing a family that will compete directly with Apple’s iPhones. The Pixel 9 will compete with the iPhone 15, Pixel 9 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL, iPhone 15 Pro Max. Remember, there doesn’t seem to be a “Pixel 9 Plus”.
Size Matters. According to recent leaks, the Google Pixel 9 Pro will have a 6.34-inch diagonal display. The current Pixel 8 has a 6.2-inch display, so if this data is confirmed, we will be facing a terminal that will not be too small, but will be clearly more compact than the current Pixel 8 Pro, which has a 6.7-inch display. inches. According to 91Mobiles/Onleaks, the Pixel 9 Pro XL will be slightly larger, with a 6.8-inch diagonal.
A compact armed to the teeth. Best of all, users who prefer a slightly smaller mobile will find an excellent candidate in the Pixel 9 Pro. We will be looking at terminals with the best hardware specifications available in the family, except for the battery capacity, which is logically lower than that of the Pixel 9 Pro XL. Apart from said battery, no more sacrifices would be made.
The promise of artificial intelligence. As Samsung already did with the Galaxy S24, artificial intelligence will be the protagonist of these terminals. Mobile phones with the surname Pro will have 16 GB of RAM, which will increase the use of Google’s artificial intelligence chatbot Gemini.
We are breaking away from SamsungWhen Samsung introduced the Galaxy S24, it did so by preserving its classic distinction. The flagship Galaxy S24 Ultra has a 6.8-inch screen and competes directly with the iPhone 15 Pro Max, but there is no “compact” model because the 6.2-inch Galaxy S24 is still a great option, as the analysis shows that it has reduced the processor (Exynos 2400 vs. Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 of the Ultra) and the camera set.
Men who love small mobile phones. Years ago, manufacturers left behind more compact sizes and today mobile phones almost always have a screen diagonal of over six inches. The love for small mobile phones still exists in an almost nostalgic form, but the battle for large screens has been won and they have done so with good arguments. Those who tried to bring back the small mobile phone have failed and the Peeble is a good example of this.
It would be good for Google if it gets approved. Despite this, manufacturers usually reserve the best hardware options for the biggest (and most expensive) phones, and this move by Google will allow them to enjoy an alternative that only Apple could defend until now: the best of the best, in two sizes. Then let the user decide.
We meet on August 13thThe Pixel 9 leaks keep coming, but for now, they’re just that. All of these details will need to be confirmed, and that’s exactly what we’ll be doing here at Engadget when Google unveils its devices. We’ll cover the event and everything that’s revealed here on August 13 at 7:00 PM Spanish time.
