A leak from HMD Meme on X (formerly Twitter) suggests that HMD Global is preparing for another Nokia phone rebrand soon. The leak details the specifications of the HMD 225 4G, which appears to be identical to the existing Nokia 225 4G that was launched earlier this year.

The HMD 225 4G, if it were real, would have a small 2.4-inch IPS LCD with a peak brightness of 400 nits. The leak suggests the Unisoc T107 SoC, a modest chipset generally found in entry-level phones.

The camera department appears to be similarly basic, with a single 2-megapixel sensor capable of shooting HD video. Storage and RAM details are still unknown, but these are likely to be lower given the phone’s target audience.

Connectivity options include Bluetooth 5.0, 4G LTE for basic internet access, dual SIM slots for switching between phone numbers, and that all-time favorite, a 3.5mm headphone jack. The leak also mentions FM radio and an IP52 rating for basic dust and water resistance.

The leaked specifications of the HMD 225 4G are almost identical to the Nokia 225 4G, suggesting that it could just be a rebrand. The spokesperson also shared renders of the HMD 225 4G, which looks very similar to the Nokia model.

HMD is yet to officially comment on the leak or existence of the HMD 225 4G. The company recently launched three Nokia-branded feature phones (215 4G, 225 4G, and 235 4G) that all have similar specifications, including the Unisoc T107 chipset and S30+ OS.

Given the striking similarities between the leaked HMD 225 4G and the Nokia 225 4G, it’s possible that the HMD 225 4G is a strategic rebranding for certain markets. This wouldn’t be the first time HMD has taken this approach. The company has previously launched select Nokia phones under its own branding in certain regions, such as the HMD 105 and Nokia 105 (2024).
