It is not known when the owners, Amanda and Philip, bought the car. The woman said that she and her husband were building houses in the United States at the time and that one night when there was no electricity, they were reading Hemmings magazine under a gas lamp. An advertisement for the sale of this car appeared on their pages. Amanda, 75, said that the car was a year older than her.
In 1948 this car was probably quite interesting on the street. It produced around 90 horsepower, which is a very low figure today, but it is worth noting that its closest competitor at the time, the Porsche, only had 35 horsepower. A powerful machine that reaches speeds of around 160 kilometers per hour.
After Ferrari published this example and before that two people who did not survive, 34 more such cars were born. Many had a body from Carrozzeria Touring, but this one was “dressed” by Stabilimenti Farina. This company launched the careers of many famous designers who worked on the most famous brands and cars for many years.
Amanda says that after finding the car years ago, she and her husband forgave it because it wasn’t in great condition. The body looked more like a piece of aluminum, with dents but no Ferrari badging or even paint, so they still don’t know what its “natural” color was. All the photos they’ve seen of this car are black and white, so all they know is that it’s some kind of dark color.
But the couple was happy that the car was not new. They saw in it a project that they could create according to their own discretion and taste. They decided that black would be boring and chose silver with a slight blue tint.
Amanda talks about her car with great excitement, saying she enjoys the unique sounds and doesn’t even plug any music into the cabin.
It should be appreciated as a historical artifact as it is, but it should also be used. That’s part of the cars for me. I love listening to them
– says the woman.
