Motorola Edge 50 Ultra In the DxOMark camera test, it performed better than the Galaxy S24 Ultra and the iPhone 15. With a score of 146, it ranks 18th among the best smartphones in terms of camera. This year’s Samsung flagship, the Galaxy S24 Ultra, ranks 23rd with a score of 144, while the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus are in 21st place with a score of 145.

DxOMark benchmarks show improvements over the previous Edge 40 Pro, including noise reduction and detail preservation when zooming in. The phone excels at capturing portraits with correct exposure and minimal motion blur, scoring 136 in the Friends & Family usage scenario.

Low-light performance is spotty. DxOMark praises the phone for accurate target exposure and pleasing color tones in both photos and video, but notes issues with inconsistent noise reduction and occasional scene integrity distortions.

Still, the phone’s HDR format contributes to good overall image quality with improved exposure and color balance.

Photography is a strong point, however, with DxOMark noting that the Edge 50 Ultra’s HDR format delivers good overall image quality, with improved exposure and color balance.

Up close, DxOMark’s new Edge 50 Ultra use case shows some limitations. It performs well but falls short of top competitors with less object detail and occasional white balance issues.

Autofocus is said to be significantly improved over the Edge 40 Pro, offering near-instant shutter lag in most lighting conditions, including in HDR mode. This gives the Edge 50 Ultra an advantage over the Galaxy S24 Ultra, allowing it to capture sharp images in a variety of scenarios and achieve a wide depth of field for well-focused group shots.

Image detail scores well in all conditions, although DxOMark notes a slight drop in low-light conditions. All that said, it’s impressive to see Motorola’s phone outperform the flagship Galaxy S24 Ultra in one of its strongest areas.

As a reminder, the Edge 50 Ultra has four cameras on the back, including a 50MP primary sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens with macro photography capabilities, a 64MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, and a laser autofocus sensor.
